Our youngest had a touch of tongue-tie. I learned from an older pediatrician who recognized tongue-tie almost intuitively, there is a necessary movement of the central portion of the tongue up to the roof of the mouth for the suck to be effective – if the frenulum is too tight, the tongue can’t obliterate the space with a nipple in the mouth, and then the dropping of the tongue won’t make as much vacuum or space for the milk to flow into the mouth and down the throat. I offered to release his tongue the day after birth but I was not a practicing pediatrician nor would I ever be! She said NO!!! Not her baby!
